Itinerary

Veteran travelers along with fledgling tourists were among the standing room only turnout for our premier of Bellissimo Travel Services’ “Travel Night.”

The event was held in the Hagerty Center at Northwestern Michigan College’s Great Lakes Water Studies Institute, and offered an intimate look at travel in Europe and elsewhere. We featured presentations by local collaborators the Camera Shop and Votruba Leather Goods and world renown travel service Collette Vacations was also part of the evening’s program.

We were very pleased with the excellent turnout and the quality of the response from our travel audience, and at the conclusion of the evening, some event attendees even lingered in their ongoing conversations with travel vendors.

We’re already planning the next Travel Night as a result of the excellent response!.

The free-to-the-public event kicked off with presentations by Jason Hamelin, new owner of the Camera Shop, along with Kerry Glaesmer of Votruba Leather Goods. Both are downtown Traverse City retailers.

A slide presentation narrated by Hillary Firlik of Grand Rapids, and a representative of Collette Vacations, then featured highlights of travel in Ireland, Scotland, Italy, “The Passion Play” in Oberammergau, Germany, and cruising the Panama Canal.

Refreshments and door prizes rounded out the evening’s festivities.

We wanted to make this evening fun and educational. It turned out to be an opportunity to vicariously visit some of the world’s greatest travel destinations, meet new friends and world travelers, while enjoying an evening of fun and sharing information too.

What is the Oberammergau Passion Play?

Seeking reprieve from the Bubonic Plague, the inhabitants of the village of Oberammergau, Germany vowed that if God were to spare them from the plague, they would perform a play every ten years depicting the life and death of Jesus. No one else died from the Bubonic Plague…and that first performance in 1634 spurred a heartfelt tradition that still lives on today! Two thousand residents from the village come together to create this powerful story and with open arms welcome you to be part of the truly unforgettable experience. The performance blends dramatic text, beautiful music, and choral accompaniment as scenes from both the Old and New Testament are depicted for the audience.
